Redding police stated that a forensic examination of the devices led to the discovery of child sex abuse photos and multiple films from the camera. The films appeared to show toddlers and adults using the restroom unaware that they were being taped, police added.

Police say that after Rovito’s wife spotted the camera on March 8, he “confirmed knowledge of the camera but pledged to remove and delete it.”

Rovito’s wife subsequently turned over the gadgets to authorities out of worry that he had recorded their small children using the bathroom, according to police.

Thursday, during a traffic check near Buenaventura Boulevard and Placer Street in Redding, detectives apprehended Rovito after obtaining an arrest warrant following a study that uncovered hundreds of images and multiple films of child sexual abuse.

Authorities said he was booked into the Shasta County Prison on charges connected to the possession of child pornography and the secret recording of an identified naked person. His name was no longer present on the jail’s online inmate list as of Sunday morning.

Sunday, Rovito did not respond immediately to a text message sent to a phone number associated with his name. It was initially unclear whether he has a lawyer who can represent him.

Friday, the day after Rovito was arrested, his wife requested and was granted a temporary restraining order against him, according to court documents. The next court session for this matter is scheduled for April 7, according to court documents, which classify it as domestic violence prevention with small children.

Sunday, Rovito’s wife could not be reached immediately for comment. Police in Redding and the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office did not reply quickly to questions.
