People living in colder regions must take special care to ensure that they can keep their homes as warm as possible without always running the central heating. In both hot and cold climates, the weather can cause physical harm to property.

How To Qualify For Weatherization Assistance Program?

The US Department of Energy (DOE) offers a Weatherization Assistance Program that aims to assist individuals with the costs associated with weatherizing their homes. It is administered at the state and local levels, with applications submitted to the state weatherization agency.

Qualified households can apply for aid through their state’s weatherization agency, but before making any changes to the property, tenants must receive approval from their landlord.

Income documentation is required for the application process.

Under DOE rules, homes with incomes at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty requirements are eligible for weatherization services, as are households receiving Supplemental Security Income or Assistance to Families with Dependent Children.

The WAP prioritizes the elderly, households with one or more disabled members, families with children, and heavy energy users.

Prior to submitting a request for assistance, individuals must identify their local provider of weatherization services. They must provide proof of annual income, such as wage stubs or social security payments.

Before making any modifications to a rented property in order to protect it from the elements, the renter must obtain permission from the landlord.
