Gov. Kay Ivey supports a one-time tax rebate that could put up to $800 in Alabama households’ pockets.
Ivey stated in her state-of-the-state address on Tuesday that the rebates will be paid for using $2.8 billion in surplus education funds. Ivey is proposing a $400 one-time payment for adults and $800 for families.
Proposed Tax Rebate
Details of the proposed tax rebate, including who would be eligible, would be included in a measure that is anticipated to be introduced when the regular session opens on March 21. Finance Director Bill Poole confirmed that the rebate would be distributed to those who filed state income tax forms. The payment schedule is unknown.
Alabama would be the latest state to use federal monies to deliver stimulus payments or rebates to its citizens if the bill is passed.
