Tesla is recalling 3,470 Model Y vehicles in the United States after discovering that fasteners securing the second-row seat back structures could be loose.

According to a public file made available on Saturday, the manufacturer issued the recall to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Monday.  The automobiles at risk were manufactured between May 23, 2022, and February 5, 2023.

Tesla Bolts Defect

As stated by the NHTSA, unsecured seat frame bolts may impair the performance of the seat belt system, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.

The second-row seat back frames are attached to the lower seat frame with four bolts per seat back, according to Tesla’s complaint, and one or more of the bolts may not have been torqued to specifications.

Tesla claimed in the recall notice that the problem might be recognized if the second-row seat backs are not folding properly or rattling during normal operation.

Consumers who own concerned models can bring them to a Tesla dealership or service center for a free inspection. Tesla stated that it will inspect the bolts that secure the second-row driver-side and passenger-side seat back structures and, if necessary, retorque them to specifications.
