Cold Feet: Here’s Why do you always feel like walking on ice? What can you do about it?

Cold feet are a reaction to environmental factors such as cold weather climates and cool surfaces in these cases.

If you’ve ever had chilly feet after a day in the snow or a barefoot walk over a tile floor in the winter, you know how unpleasant it can be.

Why Do You Have Cold Feet?

Warm socks, particularly wool socks, will typically keep your feet from freezing, and once you’re removed from the environmental exposure, your body temperature will gradually warm back up.

There are some people, however, for whom cold feet are unrelated to their surroundings. Cold feet are caused by chronic and/or acute underlying illnesses in these circumstances.

The first cause of chilly feet, according to health professionals, is a cold temperature and winter. Aside from that, the most common causes are:

Poor Blood Flow

Poor circulation is one of the most prevalent reasons for cold feet, which is why your feet may appear blue, purple, or white in addition to feeling chilly. Weak blood flow occurs when blood takes longer to reach the extremities. This usually happens when blood vessels in the body narrow or become blocked, both of which can impede blood flow to the feet.

Medical Diseases That Are Chronic

Another reason for poor circulation and restricted blood flow to the foot is chronic medical disorders. Heart disease and peripheral artery disease are two of the most common causes of cold feet. They have a direct impact on blood flow and can cause delays in circulation. Peripheral artery disease causes the arteries to narrow, limiting blood flow to the feet. Diabetes type 2 can also cause impaired circulation and, in the event of diabetic neuropathy, nerve damage.

Medications

Aside from chronic illnesses, certain drugs can cause cold feet. Also, many drugs might impair circulation, which can cause it. Beta-blockers for high blood pressure are an example of this; they lower blood pressure by reducing the rate at which blood travels through the body, enhancing the sense of coldness in the feet and other extremities.

Raynaud’s Syndrome

Raynaud’s Disease, also known as Raynaud’s Phenomenon, is a disorder that causes the fingers and toes to become numb after being exposed to cold temperatures and/or stress. The tiny arteries that supply blood to the skin narrow here, reducing circulation before it can warm the extremities. When this happens, the skin may turn white, then blue, then pink, and red as blood returns to the damaged areas.

Anemia

Another illness that can produce freezing hands and feet is anemia. Anemia, also known as low hemoglobin, occurs when the body can not produce enough red blood cells to transport oxygen to tissue, resulting in insufficient blood flow. This insufficient blood supply results in a cold sensation in the hands and feet.

Stress

You’re not alone if you develop this in stressful situations. (The experience is so widespread that it has its own idiom, such as “having cold feet” in preparation of a stressful event or activity.) Typical signs of anxiety include elevated heart rate, sweaty hands, shortness of breath, and cold feet.
