An 18-year-old student from Pennsylvania was arrested last week after he AirDropped a bomb threat to fellow passengers.
A high school student who was on a field trip in Texas is accused of airdropping a bomb threat to passengers who were on a plane that was about to take off, causing a tense situation to unfold on the runway.
Airdropped Messages
Friday was the day that the incident took place at El Paso International Airport. Around 125 passengers and eight members of the crew were scheduled to be on board American Airlines flight 2051 when it was scheduled to depart from the airport in Southwest Texas bound for Chicago.
However, police claim that before the plane could take off, passengers started to get Airdropped messages on their phones that said, “I have a bomb and would like to share a photo.”
How many passengers on the aircraft heard the message is currently unknown.
Despite this, the unsettling threat resulted in the plane being taxied back to its gate, where an investigation into the matter was subsequently initiated.
An investigation into the bomb threat was conducted, and the results of that investigation were announced on Sunday by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The investigation found that a juvenile passenger on the plane had been responsible for sending the message.
The police department has reported that the alleged offender was one of the high school students who had been traveling on the flight as part of a mission field trip. These students attend Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, which is located in Pennsylvania.
After landing back at the terminal, the plane was investigated by the bomb squad, which concluded that the unnamed teenager was the one who had sent the “non-credible” threat.
