The majority of states stagger payment dates based on SNAP case numbers, last names, or Social Security numbers throughout the month. The monthly payment schedule is typically the same.
Occasionally, payments are made to all recipients on the same day. For example, Alaska makes SNAP benefits available to all recipients on the first of every month. Benefits may, however, be paid on 20 different days in states with a larger population, like Florida.
New York is another peculiar case because there are two different SNAP agencies and two different schedules there. New York City’s schedule is revised every month. The laws governing payment days that fall on weekends or holidays vary by state.
