According to the CDC, canine influenza, commonly known as dog flu, is a contagious respiratory disease in dogs caused by specific Type A influenza viruses known to infect dogs. It differs from the seasonal influenza viruses that spread among people each year.
The CDC stands for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. According to the CDC, it is not considered life-threatening in the great majority of cases.
What Causes Dog Flu?
Since incidences of canine influenza have increased in numerous parts of the United States this winter, veterinarians are recommending dog owners to get their pups vaccinated.
According to the CDC, canine flu spreads mostly by respiratory droplets of infected dogs (through sneezing or coughing) or through contact with contaminated surfaces.
If your dog is coughing or displaying indications of a respiratory infection, keep them away from other dogs or cats who may also be infected.
“After exposure to dogs showing signs of respiratory disease, clothing, equipment, surfaces, and hands should be washed and disinfected,” the CDC advises.

What Is The Canine Flu Treatment?
Searching for symptoms can help you get your dog the care he or she requires.”The symptoms of canine flu are coughing, mucous discharge from the nose and eyes, fever, and general lethargy or malaise,” says Dr. Gary Richter, a veterinarian and pet health expert on Rover’s Dog People Panel.
Coughing, sneezing, or nasal discharge in dogs should be treated by a veterinarian.
Canine flu is currently incurable. But, your dog’s veterinarian should be able to give medication to alleviate symptoms. Pain relievers, cough suppressants, and appetite stimulants are examples of such medications.
If you reside in an area where there has been an increase in instances, try skipping the dog park for a spell. To keep your dog flu-free, avoid big groupings of dogs.
