On Tuesday, a Missouri man was sentenced to 21 years in jail without parole for killing his three children’s mother on their Ozarks vacation over economic stimulus checks.
According to a Department of Justice news statement, Dylan J. Hanger, now 31, began preparing to murder his estranged wife Brittany Gorman, 29, in the months preceding their May 2020 trip.
Husband Kills Wife Over Stimulus Checks Argument
Hanger accepted a plea agreement on May 10, 2022, and on Tuesday, U.S. District Judge M. Douglas Harpool sentenced him to 21 years and 10 months in federal prison without the possibility of release and a fine of $250,000.
On May 20, 2020, Hanger and Gorman allegedly met at the Buck Hollow Access Site near the Jacks Fork River in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways.
The couple reportedly quarreled over their stimulus check and their five to seven-year-old kids, according to a plea agreement Law and Crime was able to get.

According to court filings, Hanger stabbed his wife at least four times in the chest before disposing of her body in the Mark Twain National Forest.
The following day, according to a news statement from the National Park Service, park officials discovered Gorman’s pickup truck in the Buck Hollow region, with her eyeglasses inside and blood pools near the driver’s door.

Suspect Denies Seeing His Wife
According to the Department of Justice, before revealing the location of Gorman’s body on May 30, Hanger told her family he did not know where she had gone and believed her absence was due to her drug connections.
In interviews with Texas County Sheriff’s deputies following his initial arrest on charges of second-degree murder and interstate domestic violence, he denied any role in his wife’s abduction. According to court filings, he later told authorities he had a physical altercation with Gorman, resulting in her death.
When Gorman’s body was discovered, Sheriff Scott Lindsey stated, “The awful outcome of this investigation is not what I had hoped and prayed for since Brittany was reported missing. I would like to commend the investigative team of deputies.”
Over the previous ten days, National Park Service Special Agents, Rangers, Missouri State Highway Patrol Detectives, and adjacent law enforcement agencies worked diligently to locate Brittany and ultimately seek justice on her behalf, the sheriff said.
