$800 Tax refund available this week to eligible Americans; Here’s how to claim yours!

A number of South Carolinians have four more days to submit their tax refund applications due to a filing extension. They now have until February 15 to file their 2021 tax forms and be eligible for an $800 refund.

The initial extension was valid until October 17. However, South Carolina decided to extend the application date one more in order to assist people affected by Hurricane Ian.

$800 Tax Refund

The first round of refund payments has been completed by the South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR). In the first round, eligible taxpayers who filed their 2021 returns by October 17 received a South Carolina tax credit of up to $800.

The SCDOR will now begin paying the second batch of payments to taxpayers who filed their returns by Feb. 15, 2023, in March 2023. So, if you are eligible for the tax rebate and have not yet submitted your return, you only have two days to collect the South Carolina tax rebate.

“You must file your 2021 South Carolina Individual Income Tax return by February 15 to receive your rebate in March 2023,” the SCDOR states.

The rebate amount is determined by the taxpayer’s tax liability in 2021 and the maximum rebate amount of $800. So, if someone’s tax liability is less than $800, their refund amount will be the same as their tax liability, and if their tax liability is greater than $800, they will receive a rebate of $800.

A number of South Carolinians have four more days to submit their tax refund applications due to a filing extension. They now have until February 15 to file their 2021 tax forms and be eligible for a $800 refund.

The Check my Reimbursement Status tracker allows taxpayers to check the status of their South Carolina tax rebates. Taxpayers will need their SSN or ITIN, as well as Line 10 of their 2021 SC1040, to use the tracker.

The SCDOR requests that taxpayers update their mailing address if their address has changed since they last filed their 2021 SC Individual Income Tax Return. Taxpayers can adjust their address by going to MyDORWAY or by downloading form SC8822I and emailing it to [email protected].

The rebate will be issued by the SCDOR as a paper check or as a direct deposit, depending on how residents got their 2021 refund. If a taxpayer received their 2021 refund via direct deposit, the rebate will be deposited into the same bank account. Other qualified taxpayers will receive a printed cheque.

Filers must have a tax liability and have lived in South Carolina for at least part of 2021. If your duty is less than $800, you will receive that amount; if your liability is greater than $800, you will receive $800.

When filing, you should have all of your income documentation ready. These could include self-employment tax forms 1090 and W-2 forms from an employer.
