Despite the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl performance not going as planned, head coach Nick Sirianni stated that the game was “good for the NFL” as a whole.
However, after their team’s devastating Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, angry Eagles supporters took to the streets of Philadelphia, cursing, setting off fireworks, and getting into altercations with law enforcement officers Sunday night and into early Monday.
Eagles Fans’ Outcry
Videos shared on social media show that after the Eagles’ shocking 38-35 loss, dejected Philadelphians climbed traffic lights and chanted “F— the Chiefs!” Broad Street appeared to be a sea of green.
Several rowdy fans were seen lighting fireworks on the ground, scaling greased poles, and jumping onto bus shelters. Police issued warnings to these individuals.
A piece of the fence was thrown at one point, but it missed its target. The crowd was told to disperse over a speaker by dozens of SWAT team members and police officers dressed in riot gear.
According to videos shared on Twitter, police used smoke bombs to disperse the crowds and encourage people to go home. Before the big game even began that day, rowdy spectators overturned a car on a busy street close to Temple University.
Most people on Broad Street were peaceful, and the crowd cleared the streets between 11 pm and midnight.
Before a contentious holding call late in the game, which opened the door for the Chiefs’ game-winning field goal to give them their third Super Bowl victory, the diehards had already started partying in the streets while the Eagles were still leading.
James Bradberry, an Eagles cornerback, acknowledged holding Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster during the decisive drive after the game.
