Some states are combating the effects of rising inflation by providing taxpayers with stimulus payments and refunds.
Despite the fact that inflation has declined in recent months from record-high levels not seen since the early 1980s, people continue to experience sticker shock at supermarkets, prompting state governments to take action.
California Tax Rebates
A handful of Californians who have not yet received the Middle-Class Tax Rebate will do so. On the Middle-Class Tax Refund web portal, you may verify all the information and payment dates.
Hawaii Tax Refund
A $300 tax refund should be issued to Hawaii residents who earned less than $100,000 or $200,000 filing jointly in 2021. Individuals who earned over $100,000 and couples who earned over $200,000 are eligible for a $100 payment.
Direct deposits began issued at the end of August, however, taxpayers who filed their 2021 state tax returns between July 31 and December 31, 2022, will get a direct deposit up to 10 weeks after the tax department accepts their return, or 12 weeks if you requested a paper check.
Idaho Stimulus Payments
Governor Brad Little allowed tax refunds in the amount of $600. As people complete their tax returns and become eligible for a refund, payments will continue into early 2023. More information on the tax refund in Idaho.
Massachusetts Relief Payments
Refunds are available for approximately fourteen percent of a taxpayer’s state tax due. Those who filed their 2021 tax return prior to October 17 should have gotten their refund in December. Taxpayers who submitted returns after September 15, 2023, and before October 15, 2023, should receive their refunds one month after filing.
New Mexico Tax Returns
In-state residents can still obtain a refund of $500 for single filers and $1,000 for joint filers. Residents have until May 2023 to file their 2021 tax returns and be eligible for a refund.
South Carolina Reimbursement
Taxpayers are eligible for an $800 maximum refund. Those who submit after February 15, 2023, will receive their reimbursement in March 2023.
Michigan Stimulus Payments
The Democratic governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, has announced that the state will issue a $180 tax relief check to all residents who paid taxes last year.
In 2023, the state hopes to distribute its $9 billion surplus to all Michigan taxpayers. This has not been authorized by the state legislature.

New Jersey Property Tax Refund
About 2 million New Jersey families are eligible for property tax refunds as a result of Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters (ANCHOR).
Homeowners earning up to $150,000 will receive a $1,500 property tax refund, while that earning between $150,000 and $250,000 would receive $1,000.
Tenants earning up to $150,000 will receive $450 in rent assistance. The refunds will be delivered no later than May 2023.
