One lucky winner in Washington just collected a $747 million Powerball jackpot, while an even larger winner in California is still at large.
Three months have passed since the organizers of the lottery declared that a Powerball ticket with a value of $2.04 billion had been purchased at a convenience store in the city of Altadena.
Powerball Jackpot Remains Unclaimed in California
Officials from the California Lottery have not yet confirmed that a winner has come forward to claim their prize.
After 41 straight games in which no one was lucky enough to win the jackpot, the Powerball jackpot hit a record-setting level in the month of November and a suspenseful drawing-night delay prompted by technical issues.
Although the proprietor of the convenience shop in Altadena has already been awarded the million-dollar prize for selling the winning ticket, it is unknown whether or not the winner has come forward to claim their prize.
A lottery jackpot winner in California, as in most other jurisdictions, has one year to come forward and claim their prize. This indicates that the person who wins the $2.04 billion jackpot, which has a cash value of $997.6 million, has approximately 270 days left to come forward and claim their prize.
Even if the winner presented themselves today, it is possible that it will be some time before the winning coin is produced.

What If Winner Did Not Claim The Prize?
The monetary value of the prize corresponds to the portion of the jackpot that was accrued through the sales of their tickets if the jackpot is not won before the end of November, according to the game’s website. Following that, the funds are distributed across the jurisdictions in accordance with the applicable local rules or regulations.
According to Carolyn Becker, the state lottery’s deputy director of public affairs and communications, the funds would be spent to support public schools and colleges in the state of California.
Needs further citations During the period in which the prize was increasing, the sales of lottery tickets generated a total of $156.3 million in revenue for the educational institutions located inside the state.
This was the single largest gift to education that has ever been made by the California Lottery as a result of a single rolling sequence of drawings.
If no one came forward to claim the Powerball jackpot, it would become the highest unclaimed prize in the history of the United States lottery. This is a list that the record-setting $1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot that was won in Illinois this summer came dangerously close to joining.
Since draws are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, it’s possible that no one will win the Powerball jackpot on Election Day, even though it’s worth a whopping $2.04 billion.
