On Friday, February 3, recipients of Social Security payments received their checks for the first week of the month.
Similar to the January payments, the February payments include the 2023 cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). The increase this year increases your benefit by 8.7%. When you receive your payment depends on your date of birth and length of time as a Social Security recipient.

The first COLA hike for 2023 will appear on February paychecks. Here is the February schedule (PDF) for receiving your Social Security and/or SSI payments:
- Feb. 1: February SSI payments.
- Those who receive both SSI and Social Security, or who have received Social Security since before May 1997, will get their Social Security installments on February 3.
- Social Security payments for those with birthdays between the first and tenth of each month are issued on February 8.
- Social Security payments for those with birthdays between the 11th and 20th of each month are issued on February 15th.
- Social Security benefits for persons born between the 21st and 31st of any given month are issued on February 22.
Social Security Payment Dates
The Social Security Administration sends out monthly payments on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays. The day you receive your cheque is determined by your date of birth.
- Your payment will be sent on the second Wednesday of the following month if your birthday falls between the first and tenth of the month.
- If your birthday falls between the 11th and 20th of the month, you will receive payment on the third Wednesday of the following month.
- If your birthday falls between the 21st and 31st of the month, you will receive payment on the fourth Wednesday of the following month.
SSI participants typically receive their payments on the first of each month.

Social Security and SSI
If you earned Social Security payments prior to May 1997 or both Social Security and SSI, the payment schedule is different. Instead of receiving your payments on Wednesdays, you will now receive your Social Security payment on the third of each month and your SSI payment on the first.
However, if the first or third day of the month falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment dates vary. Last month, for instance, January 1 came on a Sunday, so SSI recipients received their January benefits on Dec. 30 and their Social Security payments on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
You may expect your SSI payment to arrive on February 1 and your Social Security check to arrive on February 3. This is consistent with the typical payment timetable described above.
If your check does not come by the stated date depending on your birth date or other circumstances, the Social Security Administration instructs you to wait three extra mailing days before contacting them.
You can contact a representative at 800-771-1213 if you still have not gotten it. (The SSA notes that wait times are reduced Wednesday through Friday and between 4 and 7 p.m. on weekday afternoons. Your Social Security benefits are also accessible online.
