On Friday, February 3, the Social Security Administration will issue the first February checks to long-term SSDI payments recipients.
January was the first-month SSDI recipients received a substantial increase in their payments due to the Social Security Administration’s annual cost-of-living adjustment, which is intended to keep payments in line with inflation.
How You Will Receive SSDI Payments?
Two factors determine how quickly you receive your money: your date of birth and the year you began receiving SSDI benefits. The SSDI payment schedule is comparable to that of Social Security unless you have been receiving SSDI for decades.
If you’ve been receiving SSDI since before 1997, your payment should arrive on the third of each month. If the third day of the month falls on a weekend or holiday, you will be paid the following business day.
In 2023, for instance, September 3 falls on a Sunday, so payments are made on Friday, September 1. There are no calendar exceptions for the February check, so recipients can expect their payment to come on February 3.
Those who have not received SSDI payments since 1997 or earlier are paid according to the same schedule as Social Security recipients. Here is how it operates:
- If your birthday falls between the first and tenth of the month, your payment will be issued on the second Wednesday of the following month.
- Your birthday check will be issued on the third Wednesday of the month if it falls between the 11th and 20th.
- If you were born on the 21st, 30th, or 31st of the month, you will receive your paycheck on the 4th Wednesday of the following month.
Your payment is due at the following times, calculated from your birth date:
- Those born between the 1st and 10th of a given month receive their SSDI payment on February 8.
- The 15th of February is the payment date for individuals whose birthdays fall between the 11th and 20th of each month.
- Those with a birthday between the 21st and 31st of a given month receive their SSDI benefits on February 22.

SSDI requirements
You can complete the process on the SSA website or by calling 1-800-772-1213 to schedule an appointment with a Social Security representative. Your Social Security number, birth certificate, housing information, pay stubs, and other income-related documents are typically requested.
If you are applying due to blindness or a disability, you must also list the hospitals and clinics you have visited. SSI recipients will receive their cash payments electronically.
Beginning in 1997, the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment schedule is comparable to the SSDI payment schedule. Each month’s payments are deposited on the first of the month (unless there is a holiday).
