The single-player Apex Legends and Titanfall games by Respawn Entertainment were canceled by Electronic Arts.
Apex Legends‘ release marked a significant shift in Respawn Entertainment’s development priorities, as the studio abandoned its Titanfall single-player/multiplayer games in favor of the successful battle royale.
Apex Legends x Titanfall Game Leaked
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has demonstrated that Respawn’s single-player skills are worthy of backing, but EA may not be totally persuaded.
In 2022, rumors began to circulate that Respawn was developing a new single-player game unrelated to its ongoing Star Wars efforts. The term Apex Universe FPS Incubation Project began to appear in job advertisements.
Later, a leaving developer acknowledged that they had contributed to Respawn’s Apex universe single-player game. However, there was never an official declaration that the game was in development.
Jason Schreier of Bloomberg is now reporting that EA has canceled the unannounced single-player Apex Legends game. There was no explanation for the cancellation, but the report did highlight that EA is making changes due to a disappointing outlook for the current fiscal quarter.
Mohammad Alavi, a veteran of Call of Duty, Titanfall, and Apex Legends who left Respawn in early 2022, is rumored to have started the project under the codename Titanfall Legends.

Future Investment Reduction
Approximately fifty programmers were working on the Apex Legends single-player game prior to its cancellation. According to the source, EA will attempt to locate places for these developers on other projects, but those who cannot be accommodated will be given severance compensation and laid off.
In other words, this is not simply the cancellation of a single game, but also the termination of Respawn’s efforts to form a second single-player-focused team.
Respawn Entertainment has been the unlucky target of recent EA layoffs. The publisher is also discontinuing Respawn’s mobile port. Given Respawn’s overall success with Apex Legends and its Star Wars single-player endeavors, EA’s decision to target the studio for cutbacks is unexpected.
It indicates that EA lacks confidence in its future and is reducing future investment. Fans of the two Titanfall games will be particularly dismayed by this news.
Despite the fact that Titanfall and Titanfall 2 were not wildly successful, at least in comparison to Apex Legends, they have a passionate fanbase that has been requesting Titanfall 3 for years.
Even if the recently canceled single-player game had tenuous ties to Titanfall, it would have been enthusiastically received by this community.
Fans of Apex Legends and Titanfall will almost surely demand another single-player game from Respawn with fresh vigor.
