The competition for artificial intelligence supremacy has begun. The sudden interest in AI-enabled chatbot systems, particularly OpenAI’s ChatGPT, appears to have Google feeling the heat.
This year, Google plans to showcase more than 20 AI-powered projects, including a version of its search engine with chatbot features, all of which will help strengthen its existing portfolio and counter the rising threat.
Google To Reveal ChatGPT Powerful ‘Competitor’
Only a month after declaring code red to counter OpenAI’s widely used AI chatbot, Google’s upper-level management has released new updates.
Even more worrisome for Google is the news that Microsoft has announced a third round of partnership with ChatGPT’s developer, Open-AI, and reportedly has plans to integrate ChatGPT into Microsoft’s own search engine, Bing. The tech giant, however, will face stiff opposition.
Google is currently in the process of developing a search engine with a chatbot and has recently sought the assistance of founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. The New York Times reports that both Page and Brin were consulted by company executives to discuss various strategies for combating rising competition.
Even the report mentions that Google’s chatbot demonstration will emphasize accuracy, safety, and the elimination of misinformation.

Google’s AI Projects
According to a presentation deck viewed by The New York Times, Google is currently developing a multitude of AI projects. Among the products known to be in development is an image generation tool that creates and edits images, an app for testing product prototypes, and a YouTube green screen mode inspired by TikTok.
However, Google is proceeding with caution when it comes to the release of new AI technology and is developing methods to enhance product approval processes, including reviews to ensure AI-powered technology is fair and ethical.
At the upcoming I/O conference in May, the company plans to display all of these and more. It appears that Google is aware of the rise of ChatGPT and is attempting to get ahead of the trend as quickly as possible.
Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, went so far as to say that the company is preparing to unveil completely new experiences for users, developers, and businesses. However, this endeavor has not been without cost. Google was recently criticized for drastically reducing its workforce, laying off over 12,000 employees.
These difficult decisions have proven to be unpopular with employees, but the future remains a mystery. With Microsoft advancing rapidly with artificial intelligence and Google scrambling to keep up, the competition for the internet is intensifying.
