Cleveland resident: Here’s how you get your $800 winter crisis program

The Winter Crisis Program is now accepting applications from Cleveland residents who qualify for up to $800 in utility assistance.

What Is Cleveland Winter Crisis Program?

The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is utilized in combination with the Step Forward Winter Crisis Program to give up to $175 to regulated utility consumers.

Customers of unregulated utilities, such as municipal utilities and electric cooperatives, have the opportunity to earn up to $800.

Households that have been disconnected, are at risk of being separated, or only have one-fourth of a tank of bulk fuel left will benefit from this one-time payment.

Residents must have a gross income that is at or below 175 percent of the federal poverty threshold in order to be eligible for the assistance.

The funds will subsequently be used to pay the resident’s utility bill or repair expenditures for the heating system.

In order to apply for payment, customers must call (216) 350-8008 to schedule an appointment. In addition, candidates are able to schedule an appointment via the Step Forward website.

Appointments are only available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and walk-ins are not permitted.
