In April 2020, the first batch of stimulus check payments was released, with eligible tax-paying adults receiving up to $1,200 and eligible dependents under 16 receiving $500 apiece.

On December 27, 2020, then-President Donald Trump authorized the second batch of stimulus check payments, which gave a one-time payment of $500. Families with children younger than 16 were eligible to receive an extra $600 in tax credits.

The payments were distributed on December 29, 2020, and January 15, 2021, to qualifying individuals and households. The last wave of stimulus check payments was delivered on March 11, 2021, after President Joe Biden approved the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan.

The third wave of payments paid qualified taxpayers with a maximum $1,400 stimulus benefit, while married couples filing jointly received a maximum of $2,800. It has been some time since the last round of stimulus check payments, which raises worries about the status of the fourth round of payments.

The Economic Impact Payments were previously passed by Congress, allowing the distribution of stimulus funds through the adoption of three bills.

The federal government will not deliver a fourth wave of stimulus check payments in 2023, in response to a frequently asked question.

Congress has not yet passed legislation permitting the release of additional stimulus checks. Jackson Hewitt’s chief tax information officer, Mark Steber, reported that there are no plans for more federal stimulus checks in 2023.

Several states have taken matters into their own hands by issuing their own stimulus payments to their inhabitants. In 2022, California residents got payments of up to $1,050 as a result of the state legislature’s approval of inflation relief checks.

The state expects that approximately five percent of checks will not be issued until January 15, 2023. Individuals with earnings of at least $250,000 and couples filing jointly with at least $500,000 are eligible for inflation relief checks.

By September 2022, Colorado 2021 tax filers will likely have received compensation of $750 for single filers and $1,500 for joint filers. Those who submitted a request for an extension by the October 17 deadline may still be awaiting their checks.

The remaining checks are anticipated to be distributed by January 31 at the latest. South Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Idaho have also provided their inhabitants with relief checks.
