The Russian embassy in Washington had previously warned that sending air defense systems to Ukraine could have “unpredictable consequences,” but Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Thursday that the goal is “not to spin the flywheel of military conflict, but, on the contrary, to end this war.”
The day prior, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had asked the US Congress for continued support in the country’s ongoing conflict with Russia.
US To Send Weapons To Ukraine
In response, the US Department of Defense announced $1.85 billion in additional security assistance for Ukraine, including a Patriot air defense missile system and high-speed anti-radiation missiles.
Putin described the Patriot system as “quite an old system” and said that the American supply of weapons to Ukraine is “just prolonging the conflict.” The invasion of Ukraine began on February 28 and has now reached 300 days.
There has been tension between the United States and Russia over the situation in Ukraine, with the U.S. providing military assistance to the Ukrainian government and Russia supporting separatist rebels in the eastern region of the country.
The conflict, which began in 2014, has resulted in thousands of deaths and has been described as a “low-intensity war.”

Vladimir Putin Accused Of Violating International Laws
The US has accused Russia of violating international law and the sovereignty of Ukraine by annexing Crimea and supporting the separatist rebels.
The US and its allies have imposed economic sanctions on Russia in response. Russia, on the other hand, has denied involvement in the conflict and accused the U.S. of interfering in its affairs.
Moreover, the US announcement of additional military assistance to Ukraine has drawn criticism from Russia, with Putin stating that it will only serve to “prolong the conflict.” The US has defended its support for Ukraine, stating that it is necessary to help the country defend itself against aggression and to deter further Russian aggression.
Moreover, the conflict in Ukraine remains a major source of tension between the US and Russia and shows no signs of being resolved in the near future.
It is important for all parties involved to work towards a peaceful resolution and to avoid actions that could escalate the situation further.
