While the majority of Illinoisans have gotten their income and property tax rebates, others are still awaiting their checks.
As of Wednesday, less than 4% of qualifying taxpayers were still awaiting their tax rebates, according to an update from government authorities.
Illinois Still Issuing Tax Rebates
The state has given checks amounting to $1.042 billion to more than 5.1 million Illinois residents.
The state’s Family Relief program began distributing payments to qualifying individuals and households on September 12. The Illinois Department of Revenue stated that taxpayers who submitted Form IL-1040 should begin receiving payments at this time.
If you have any questions, here is the information you need, including how much money you may potentially get if applications are still being accepted, and how to check your payment status.
According to a recent press release from the office of Illinois Comptroller Susanna Mendoza, a single taxpayer would earn $50, while married couples filing jointly will receive a total of $100. Residents with dependents will get a reimbursement of up to $300, with a limit of $100 per dependent.
According to authorities, income restrictions of $200,000 per individual taxpayer and $400,000 per married couple would be connected to the checks.

How To Be Eligible?
To be eligible, you must have been a resident of Illinois in 2021 and fulfill the income requirements. Those that filed the 2021 IL-1040 tax form will instantly get their refunds.
In addition to income tax rebates, certain homeowners may be eligible for further aid. With a maximum payment of $300, qualified property owners will get a rebate equal to the property tax credit claimed on their 2021 IL-1040 form.
To qualify, you must have paid Illinois property taxes on your principal residence in 2021 and have an adjusted gross income of less than $500,000 if filing jointly. If filing as an individual, your income must be less than $250,000.
According to the website of the state of Illinois, refunds will be delivered in the same manner as your initial income tax return. If you did not get a refund, did not file an Illinois income tax return, or are seeking the property tax rebate separately, then a paper check will be sent.
As is the case with income tax rebates, property owners who submit the IL-1040 form will automatically get rebates. No longer are applications being accepted. People who were unsure of their eligibility were allowed to submit the relevant forms until October 17.
Visit tax.illinois.gov/rebates for further details or to verify the status of a rebate. Additionally, those in need may call 1 800 732-8866 or 217 782-3336. State authorities had previously estimated that it would take at least eight weeks to deliver the money.
According to state authorities, if you did not receive a refund or if you received a paper check refund, it may take longer for the rebate to be provided.
