California taxpayers began receiving inflation stimulus checks in October. But millions of citizens are still waiting for the one-time payment, which, depending on your income, filing status, and household size, may be worth up to $1,050.
The Middle-Class Tax Refund, or MCTR, was a $12 billion component of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s economic recovery program. According to the Franchise Tax Board, more than 6.9 million direct deposits and 6.8 million debit cards had been distributed as of December 9th.
When Should I Receive My Payment?
However, according to officials, the money distribution process will be completed about mid-January. Still, waiting to receive yours? You can determine who qualifies for the payment and when you may expect yours.
The Middle-Class Tax refund is available to any resident of California who paid state taxes alone and earned $250,000 or less, as well as to couples who filed jointly and earned $500,000 or less.
Anyone reported as a dependant in the 2020 tax year, single filers who made more than $250,000 in 2020, and married couples who made more than $500,000 together are not qualified for the refund.
Furthermore, you need to have been a resident of California for at least half of the 2020 tax year, file your state tax return by October 15, 2021, and still be a resident of California on the day the MCTR payment is given.
Direct deposits, meant to arrive before October 25, were initially distributed to Californians who received money from either round of the Golden State Stimulus payments. The remaining direct deposits were made between October 28 and November 14th.

How To Inquire About California Stimulus Checks?
However, if your banking information has changed since you filed your 2020 tax return or if you have never set up direct deposit in the first place, you should prepare to get a Money Network debit card in place of direct deposit.
The Franchise Tax Board announced that cards will be mailed between December 17, 2022, and January 14, 2023. The board also stated that it anticipates 95% of all MCTR payments, including direct deposit and debit cards, to be made by the end of 2022.
Remember that some tax returns need additional review, according to the FTB, which may cause a delay in your deposit or result in you receiving a debit card in place of it.
Call the FTB customer care line at 800-542-9332 if you believe you have received your payment by now. Call Money Network at 800-240-0223 and select option 3 for card replacement if you unintentionally threw your debit card in the garbage or lost it.
