While you may not be receiving a Christmas bonus this year, many states are providing residents with a bonus tax rebate or stimulus check to help them cope with ongoing inflation. Some have finished sending out funds, but many others are still issuing payments.
Massachusetts only recently began returning $3 billion in surplus tax revenue. The payments, which amount to about 14% of an individual’s 2021 state income tax liability, are expected to keep going at least until December 15.
In October, South Carolina began issuing printed checks, debit cards, and direct deposits for up to $800, and this will continue until the end of the year. State lawmakers approved the income tax rebates as part of this year’s $8.4 billion budget.
