The Social Security Administration distributed the second of four Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) payments this week. Please don’t worry if you’re expecting a price but haven’t yet received it.
When you receive your money is determined by two factors: your date of birth and the year you first began receiving SSDI benefits.
Unless you’ve been receiving SSDI checks for several decades, SSDI payments follow a similar schedule to Social Security payments. We’ll go ahead and explain further below. Also, please remember that the amount you receive will be higher beginning in January 2023 because of the cost of living arrangement.
Here’s when you’ll get your Social Security Disability Insurance payment in December. If you’ve been receiving SSDI since 1997 or earlier, you should receive your compensation on the third of every month.
There are, however, exceptions. If the third day of the month falls on a weekend or holiday, you will be paid the next business day. Because September 3 fell on a Saturday this year, beneficiaries received their checks on Friday, September 2.
December will remain the same because December 3rd is also a Saturday. As a result, you should receive your check on December 2.
SSDI Payments Schedule
Payments to those without SSDI benefits since 1997 or before follow the same schedule as Social Security payments. This is how it works:
- If your birthday falls between the first and tenth of the month, your payment will be mailed to you on the second Wednesday.
- If your birthday falls between the 11th and 20th of the month, you will receive your payout on the third Wednesday.
- If your birthday falls between the 21st and 31st of the month, you will receive your payout on the fourth Wednesday.

Dec. 14: SSDI payment for those with birthdays between the first and tenth of the month.
December 21: SSDI payment for those born between the 11th and 20th of any given month.
SSDI payments are made on December 21st for those born between the 11th and 20th of any given month.
