Several states have been given permission by the US Department of Agriculture to distribute emergency allotments after the COVID-19 pandemic was declared a public health emergency.

Following Governor Greg Abbott’s announcement that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission will provide more than $341.4 million in emergency SNAP food benefits for December, SNAP benefits have been extended in Texas.

More than 1.6 million households in Texas are thought to benefit from the emergency allotments. The extension of emergency allotments in December, according to Abbott, assures that Texan families can remain well and take care of their loved ones over the holiday season.

Wayne Salter, the deputy executive commissioner of Texas HHS Access and Eligibility Services, added that they were grateful for the chance to assist Texans to provide for their families throughout the holidays.

In July, some residents of East Texas reported complaints about delays in receiving their SNAP payments. They asserted that this was creating issues for them.

Adam Turner, the owner of Papa Murphy’s, stated that at least 15% of their regular customers are only using EBT. According to reports, SNAP applications per month increased by 65% in 2022 compared to the months before the pandemic.

Due to the greater demand and smaller workforce, HHSC has explained that processing the applications could take longer. The organization continued by saying that they are tackling the issue by holding job fairs and considering salary raises for their employees.

Candidates also have the choice to complain if their applications for food stamps are not processed promptly. The procedures for submitting a particular sort of inquiry or complaint vary by state and county. Additionally, there is a mechanism for students to apply for food stamps.
