On December 1, eligible retirees and survivors will receive their first Social Security check, which will be worth $841. On December 30, their second check will be issued, worth an average of $914.
Because it represents the revised SSI benefit level for the next year, the payment received on December 30th is an advance payment for January 2023. Previously getting $841 in supplemental security income, recipients will receive $914.
SSA Mails Are Important
Due to the fact that January 1st, 2023, occurs on a Sunday and is a holiday, recipients of SSI benefits will receive two payments in December instead of one.
In this situation, the Social Security Administration (SSA) mails the checks the day before the next working day. That day is this Friday, December 30.
For the second time this year, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients received two payments in a single month in April and September.
On the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of each month, the SSA mails payments. The Wednesday on which you’ll get the money depends on your birthdate. SSI benefits are typically distributed on the first of every month.
-
If your birthday is between the first and tenth of the month, your payment will be sent on the second Wednesday.
-
If your birthday falls between November 11 and November 20, you will get your payment on the third Wednesday of that month.
-
If your birthday comes between the 21st and the 31st of the month, your payment will be made on the fourth Wednesday of that month.

The SSA advises contacting your bank, post office, or financial institution for support.
After contacting an agency, you can follow up with a call at 1-800-771-1213. Another protocol in circumstances like this is to telephone or go to the closest Social Security office.
Additionally, the SSA highlights that Wednesday through Friday evenings have decreased wait times to speak with a representative (between 4 pm and 7 pm local time). You can check your benefits online at ssa.gov/myaccount while you wait to receive your physical card.
