Stimulus Checks Update: These States Are Dispatching Final 2022 Payments

California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, and other states may still owe you stimulus checks in 2022.

According to a recent study, the majority of Americans are worried about how they’ll be able to afford gifts this year as rising prices continue to strain many families’ budgets.

While it is unlikely that the federal government would issue another stimulus check, some states are providing direct grants to their citizens to assist them to deal with growing prices.

Earlier this year, California permitted direct payments of up to $1,050 to assist residents in adjusting to inflation. The Middle-Class Tax Refund program has already given out more than $5 billion, according to the state’s Franchise Tax Board.

When to Receive Remaining Stimulus Checks?

Some qualifiers, though, won’t get their money until December or January. According to the government, direct deposit payments for recipients of Golden State Stimulus checks from the previous year have already been made to bank accounts.

However, a debit card will be mailed between December 17 and January 14 to Californians who have altered their banking information since completing their 2020 tax return.

For people who previously received stimulus checks in this manner, debit cards will be mailed by December 10, and for everyone else, debit cards will be mailed by January 14. These are the states that may still owe money to their residents:

Colorado

This year, Colorado State lawmakers enacted a bill allowing direct tax refund payments to Colorado. Individual filers will receive a check for $750 under the Colorado Cash Back program, while joint filers would receive a payment of $1,500.

The payments will have already been sent to the majority of residents, but those who requested an extension and submitted their state tax returns by the deadline of October 17 can anticipate receiving their payments on January 31, 2023.

Idaho

Brad Little, the governor of Idaho, signed a $500 million income tax rebate into law in September.

Full-time Idaho taxpayers who filed taxes in 2020 and 2021 will receive a refund equal to 10% of the tax they paid on their income in 2020, up to a maximum of $300.  A minimum of $600 will be given to joint filers.

According to the Idaho Tax Commission, processing of the rebates began in September and will last into early 2022. The commission estimates that every week there will be about 75,000 payments.

News Jersey

Residents of New Jersey who qualify began receiving one-time payments of at least $500 this month.

The recipients of the payouts are those who filed state income tax returns for 2021 using an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number but were not eligible for federal stimulus checks.

Every ITIN holder on the tax return will receive a $500 payment from the program, thus a married couple filing jointly who claims two dependents will receive $2,000 if all four of them have ITINs.

Elderly Pennsylvanians who are qualified and have been given the go-ahead to receive a refund on 2021 property taxes or rent have been receiving one-time payments from the state.

The top normal rebate amount is $650, but people who are eligible for supplementary rebates can get up to $975. Half of Social Security income is excluded from the $35,000 yearly cap for homeowners and the $15,000 annual cap for renters. The application date is December 31.

Governor Tom Wolf of Pennsylvania has meantime urged lawmakers to approve a bill that would distribute $2,000 cheques directly to qualified Pennsylvanians.

A $1 billion tax rebate was authorized by South Carolina lawmakers in June. The reimbursements, which have an upper limit of $800, started being given out earlier this month, according to the South Carolina Department of Revenue.

For those who submitted their 2021 state income tax returns by the deadline in October, payments are presently being given out.  The payments will instead be made in March 2023 to those who file their returns between October 17 of this year and February 15, 2023.

Virginia

A bill authorizing a one-time tax rebate was passed by the Virginia General Assembly earlier this year. Joint filers are eligible for reimbursement of up to $500, whereas individual taxpayers are only eligible for a $250 rebate. People who submitted their 2021 tax returns before September 5 will already be reimbursed.

The Virginia Department of Taxation reports that rebates are being given to people who filed after that date in the sequence in which they did so. Taxpayers that qualify must have submitted their returns before November 1, 2022, in order to be eligible for the rebate.
