December SNAP Benefits: Where Will Food Assistance Be Provided?

People who get SNAP benefits from different states are waiting for any updates in December to see if they will receive emergency allotments for the following month from their local SNAP offices.

New York became the latest state to extend emergency food stamp payments through December 2022, with SNAP benefits and emergency allotments extended until at least February 2023.

SNAP Benefits Availability Per Location

A federal program called SNAP benefits payments tries to give low-income households and individuals more purchasing power so they can feed their families healthily.

Some states, like New Mexico, Oregon, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin, have already made the official announcement that they will be extending emergency allotments through December.

Additionally, some states will receive their November payments in December. Alabama, California, Kansas, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, and Vermont are among these states.

Some SNAP benefit emergency allotment announcements may have been postponed until after Thanksgiving.

The list of states offering emergency food stamp payments now includes Illinois, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Virginia, and West Virginia as of November 28.

The public health emergency notice is connected to the emergency SNAP money. Since its initial introduction in January 2020, it has been extended once every ninety days.

Prior to ending the health emergency, the Department of Health and Human Services stated that it will offer 60 days’ notice.

According to reports, it’s doubtful that the emergency benefits associated with the public health emergency would terminate before the end of January 2023. Whether the additional payments be made on a monthly basis is up to each state to decide.

For the month of December, fewer states have thus far declared extensions. In 2023, extra payments are anticipated to end completely. This could cause households to experience issues with food budgeting.

Nearly 4,553,236 people in California received SNAP benefits on August 22 alone, according to data from the US Department of Agriculture, making 2,579,564 households in California the state’s current recipients.

The SNAP program is known by a different name in California. The payout scheme is known as CalFresh. California adheres to a payment schedule based on the case numbers of the beneficiaries when it comes to depositing the recipients’ SNAP benefits.

The SNAP payments you are entitled to will be deposited in December if your case number is 1. Up until December 10, this timetable will be followed. Benefits are made available to persons who receive cash assistance in California during weekends and holidays.

The beneficiaries’ leftover amount on their EBT card is transferred to the following month’s balance, with payments beginning on December 1 and ending on December 3.

For a home of only one person, California deposits a maximum SNAP benefit worth $281, while each additional household member is assessed to have an additional $211 in income. If recipients in California have not received their food stamps by the due date, they are urged to contact their regional SNAP office.
