Thanks to Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s $1.8 billion Illinois Family Relief Plan, millions of residents of that state are qualified for income tax rebates, property tax rebates, or both.
The state Department of Revenue reports that physical checks began to be mailed out on September 12 and will continue to do so for around eight weeks.
Illinois Tax Rebates Qualifications
Even if you haven’t yet submitted your state income tax return, today is the last day to submit the required paperwork to claim your rebates.

Illinois citizens who filed separately in 2021 and made less than $200,000 or who filed jointly and made less than $400,000 are eligible for the income tax rebate. The IL-1040 form must be submitted by October, though, to be qualified for the income tax rebate.

How Much Can I Receive?

Additionally, the 2021 Schedule IL-E/EIC form must be filled out by residents with dependents. Individuals will get a $50 rebate, while couples will get a $100 reimbursement. For a maximum of three dependents, the rebate is also worth $100 per dependent claimed on your 2021 taxes.
A family of four might get up to $300 overall. If their 2021 Form IL-1040’s adjusted gross income is under $250,000, Illinois residents who paid state property taxes on their primary residence last year are qualified for the rebate. The maximum for married couples filing jointly is $500,000
If you are eligible, you can receive a reimbursement of up to $300 which is equivalent to the property tax credit you were able to claim on your 2021 IL-1040 form. If they submit an IL-1040 form by October 17, property owners can still get a refund. It can be sent in by mail or electronically through MyTax Illinois.
There is nothing you need to do if you submitted 2021 Form IL-1040 and Schedule ICR. The same method you used to get your state tax return is how the state is sending your reimbursement.
Tangible checks will be mailed to the address listed on your tax return if you didn’t receive a refund. The first checks were issued on September 12 and the last ones should be delivered to taxpayers by mid-November.
