The last federal stimulus check was issued in 2021, but as record inflation continues to have an impact on many Americans’ bottom lines and budgets, local governments are beginning to step up and provide financial assistance to residents.
At the moment, thirteen states are giving their citizen’s stimulus funding. These include Massachusetts’ new Chapter 62F law, which mandates that the state must return budget surpluses to residents, and California, where the Middle-Class Tax Refund offers up to $1,050 per single tax filer. About 14% of the state income taxes paid by residents in 2021 will be reimbursed.

States Stimulus Check 2022
The following states also presently provide stimulus funding: Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Virginia. This year, a lot of other people contributed financially.
As politicians continue to discuss suggested legislation, a few more states may soon announce stimulus packages, income tax rebates, and gas rebates.
Kentucky
A taxpayer refund program worth $1 billion from the state’s budget surplus is on the table in the Bluegrass State. The state Senate has given its blessing to the measure, but the state House of Representatives has not yet cast a vote. The Commonwealth Journal reported that other legislators are opposing the proposal and are in favor of gradually lowering the income tax.
Since the legislative year is over, it probably won’t occur in 2022. Those who are qualified could get a one-time payout of $500 for individuals and $1,000 for couples filing jointly if it eventually becomes law.
North Carolina
A new law in North Carolina that would put the money back in residents’ pockets is also focused on a sizable 2022 budget surplus. Democratic lawmakers have proposed using the $6.5 billion at stake to provide local taxpayers with $200 gas tax rebates as a way to offset the rising cost of fuel.
Like in Montana, some members of the local legislature are opposing the proposal and would rather reduce state income tax than make a one-time payment. The Associated Press reports that no decision has yet been made regarding the idea. Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania now offers low-income earners a property tax/renters refund scheme. The usual compensation is $650. However, stimulus payments of up to $975 might be given to the aged, widows, widowers, and the disabled.
Within the framework of his PA Opportunity Program, Governor Tom Wolf has proposed a new provision. According to a statement on the governor’s official website, it would provide a one-time payment of $2,000 to households that earn $80,000 or less yearly to assist with childcare bills and other needs like groceries.
Montana
Also for the year, Montana’s budget has a $1 billion surplus. According to the Montana Free Press, two different bills have been proposed by the state’s Republican legislative factions to give residents a refund through rebate schemes for taxpaying citizens.
One suggestion calls for awarding $1,000 to property owners who paid their property taxes and $1,250 to citizens who paid their state income taxes. The second plan requests a $3,000 income tax refund. As per Forbes, the lawmakers’ request for a special session to vote on the bills by the end of 2022 was turned down. In 2023, the bills might be discussed.
