State significance

Even though former Rep. Beto O’Rourke is a strong opponent, it is likely that Gov. Greg Abbott will be re-elected and stay in office.

The two have fought over gun laws, access to abortions, and the governor’s controversial plan to bus migrants to liberal states, which he said was a way to protest the policies of Democrats.

After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and the state’s “trigger” law went into effect on August 25, abortions have almost stopped in Texas. O’Rourke has said that he will fight to get back to the level set by Roe.

Also, Texas got two more seats in the U.S. House because of the results of the 2020 census. It now has a total of 38 candidates, all of whom are on the ballot this year.

When a certain percentage of expected votes are reported, a county is colored red or blue. This threshold is different for each state and is based on how votes have been reported in the past and what people think will happen this year.
