It’s like trying to nail Jell-O to a tree to keep track of all the Ricks and Mortys in the infinite multiverse. It helps to have a clear head, a strong stomach, and a slide rule from NASA.
Last week’s first episode, “Solaricks,” gave Rick and Morty a fresh start by showing that Rick’s portal gun no longer works now that the Citadel is gone.
But things go from bad to worse when Rick accidentally resets all portal travelers instead of just the portal index. This sends everyone back to their original universes in a very confusing way.
From this premise, a few shocking things become clear. For one thing, the popular “ticket theory” from Rick and Morty seems to be true. This is shown when Jerry is sent back to his original universe before he met another version of himself at Jerryboree.
More important, though, is that our Morty is actually from the same universe as the evil version of Rick (known as Rick Prime) who killed Rick’s wife and daughter. Our Rick chose this Morty because he wanted to set a trap for Rick Prime, who seems to be the new main villain now that “Evil Morty” is gone.
In other words, it was an episode with a lot of canons. If that’s your thing, you’re probably pretty happy with your life.
But if you like Rick and Morty better when it’s funnier and lighter, you’re in luck. “Rick: A Mort Well Lived,” the second episode of Season 6, trades lore for fun with a hilarious reference to die-hard fans and a call-back to a classic joke that you can probably guess from the title.
