In the first episode of House of the Dragon, King Viserys’ advisors are worried that he is getting older and weaker and doesn’t have a child to take his place when he dies. This means that Daemon might be able to take the throne. When his wife Aemma gives birth, the king has to make a hard choice.

Grand Maester Mellos tells Viserys that they can use a crude version of a cesarean section to save the baby, but Aemma will die. The king lets Mellos do the procedure even though Aemma doesn’t know about it, so her last moments are full of fear and confusion.

His small body is seen wrapped up at a sad funeral service, where Rhaenyra’s dragon Syrax burns his ashes. Funerals are always sad, but they are especially sad when they are held to remember an infant.

The first date between Viserys and his niece is even more awkward than most first dates. Even Viserys seems to think that a grown-up should not date a child.

Mellos gives Rhaenyra a cup of “tea” that he has secretly mixed with a substance that will cause an abortion. He does this to avoid “unwanted complications.”
Daemon Murders His Wife
Ser Gerold Royce, Rhea’s cousin, accuses Daemon of killing her. Daemon rudely denies the accusation and says he’s entitled to inherit his wife’s properties.
Ser Criston Beats Ser Joffrey To Death
Rhaenyra and Laenor will get married for political reasons, Rhaenyra will keep seeing Criston in secret, Laenor will keep seeing Joffrey in secret, and they will keep each other’s secrets safe. But Criston sees this as a threat and kills Joffrey by beating him to death in the middle of the party, shocking everyone there.
