The Rings of Power is finally getting interesting as its first season comes to a close. The first rings have been made, and Galadriel’s boyfriend, er, mortal enemy, has been revealed. But the fires of Mount Doom won’t wait for anyone (or any elves), and you can bet that Amazon Prime Video will milk its Lord of the Rings IP for as long as possible.
(There are still more footnotes by J.R.R. Tolkien to look into!) So, there are already plans for four more seasons of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Co-showrunner J.D. Payne said this before the first season even came out.
Payne told Empire in June 2022, “There are things that happen in the first season that doesn’t pay off until the fifth season.” “We even know what our last shot will be in the last episode.”
Here’s what we know about what will happen next in Middle-earth.
Will Rings of Power Have a Season 2?
Yes, and another three after that. In an interview with Variety, Jennifer Salke, who is in charge of Amazon Studios, said, “We’re building infrastructure for five seasons. We are putting together a small city. We were always willing to spend as much as it took to get it right.

When Will Season 2 of Rings of Power Come Out?
There are plans for a total of five seasons, and season 2 should come out sooner rather than later, maybe even in 2023. Salke said that the second chapter is already being made. She told Variety, “We’re going to get that out there as soon as we can.

We want the time between seasons to be as short as possible, but we also want to keep the bar high. So whatever it takes will be done. But there was a sense of urgency to move quickly, so these guys kept writing during their break. We’re going quickly.
Who Will Be in the Cast?
Most of the main cast is expected to come back, including Morfydd Clark, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charlie Vickers, Markella Kavenagh, Daniel Weyman, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Sophia Nomvete, and more.
But Prime Video has also announced a new member of the cast: Crdan, an old, wise elf who plays a key role not only in the Second Age of Middle-earth but also in the Third and Fourth Ages. We don’t know who will play the new character yet, but as filming goes on, we can expect to find out.
What Will Season 2 Be About?
We don’t know much about the plot of the next season yet, but Galadriel will probably still be upset about her failure to crush, bless her. In an interview with Esquire in October 2022, Payne said, “Even though we know that Sauron was involved in some of the science behind making the rings, we still see [Galadriel] give the go-ahead to make the rings.
She also has to take some blame: “I gave the Dark Lord power.” On a raft, I saved his life. I was there when he went from being unknown to being in charge of an army. She has a lot to think about and be responsible for. I think she will have to pick up the pieces and see how her choices affect her different relationships.

We can therefore expect some tension between Galadriel and Elrond, who seemed to find out who Halbrand really was when he picked up a genealogy scroll at the end of season 1. Writer Gennifer Hutchinson told Polygon, “I think it’s pretty clear at the end that there’s a bit of conflict at that moment.” “She has asked him for a lot. We were really after that. “This is the real test; you promised to trust me,” he said. We wanted to make sure that got across.”
And when Halbrand, played by Charlie Vickers, walks toward the lava-spewing mouth of Mount Doom at the end of season 1, we know that season 2 will have a lot more at stake. The real fighting is just about to start.
