The CW’s Supernatural ended in 2020 after 15 years with heartbreaking goodbyes. What occurred before Sam’s (Jared Padalecki) and Dean’s (Jensen Ackles) dads went hunting? How did the Winchesters and Supernatural’s plot begin? The Winchesters, a Supernatural prequel starring Jensen and Danneel Ackles, will answer all these questions.
Supernatural spinoffs are in the works. The CW dropped Supernatural: Bloodlines in 2014. Wayward Sisters, another interesting premise, was scrapped in 2017 without a pilot. The news of rejected spinoffs saddened fans until The Winchesters secured a series order.
The Winchesters explore the history of the Winchester family, notably John and Mary Winchester, the parents of Sam and Dean Winchester. Even though they weren’t there for most of the original series, their impact is everywhere.
There have been clues at the hunting family’s roots, from the Men of Letters to Mary’s career as a hunter, but never a full look into how they got into this dangerous line of work. The Winchesters will reveal John and Mary’s modest and brutal beginnings and maybe their family genealogy.
The Winchesters Season 1 has concluded production, now it’s time to prepare for their return. Let’s look at what we know about The Winchesters, a Supernatural prequel.

The Winchesters Plot
Fans of the television show “Supernatural” are well aware of who the Winchesters are. They are presented as humanity’s final line of defense in the program that spawned them. They are the ones that keep the balance of good and evil in check.

Despite being ordinary mortals, they frequently engage in combat with beings that are either godlike or demonic. However, all of their knowledge, abilities, and fighting spirit were handed down to them as they inherited their family history, although in a roundabout method, as they find during the course of Supernatural. This was the case despite the fact that their family legacy was passed down to them. So, what exactly was this inheritance?
The biography of John Winchester and Mary Campbell, Sam and Dean’s parents, is explored in depth during the first season of The Winchesters. The show examines how these two very distinct people came to be together and how their union shaped the future of their children.
The movie’s trailer takes place in 1972, and it depicts a young John, portrayed by Drake Rodger, returning from the Vietnam War. Upon his return, John is confused about the meaning of his life and the mystery surrounding his father’s strange absence. His fortuitous encounter with Mary Campbell, who is represented by Meg Donnelly, causes a paradigm shift in his understanding of the known world as he foolishly attempts to “assist” her in a battle against a demon.
After the passing of a close friend, Mary is struggling with her own problems and is questioning whether or not she should continue working as a hunter. Nevertheless, the disappearance of her own father forces her to go back into her old position.
The phenomenon known as “missing dad” draws the two main characters of the show together. Sam and Dean were initially driven to collaborate in the show Supernatural because of a similar situation.
However, one may argue that this plot is inconsistent with the canon of the Supernatural series, given that Mary loathed John at first until they were hit by a cupid’s arrow (very literally), and John did not know anything about hunting until Mary was killed at the beginning of Supernatural.
These may be explained in a later episode of The Winchesters by way of a scenario in which a memory-erasing scene is performed by an angel, a contract struck with a demon, or time travel, given that we are aware that the Supernatural world has other universes and timelines already in existence. Given the format of the presentation, anything may happen at any time.
The Winchesters Cast
At New York Comic Con, it was revealed that Tom Welling will play the lead role of Sam Campbell in The Winchesters. Sam Campbell is Mary Campbell’s father and is a professional hunter.
In the new series, Rodger and Donnelly will play the primary roles of John and Mary, but they won’t be the only ones on screen; the cast list is now in the process of being filled up.

It appears as though Jensen Ackles will simply reprise his role as Dean in a narrator capacity and will not really be appearing on the new program, despite the fact that he is extensively engaged in the production of the new show.

The Winchesters Trailer
The Winchesters’ official trailer was posted on May 19, 2022, but has since been pulled from The CW’s official YouTube channel. Dean Winchester himself narrates the beginning of the tape, taking notes while leaning over the family’s famed 1967 Chevrolet Impala and speculating about his parents and how they may have met.
The trailer also has various references to the previous series, such as the Men of Letters and Mary pondering the family business of hunting. In a journey involving vampires, werewolves, and demons, which is extremely familiar to fans of the famous CW franchise, they are joined by two other teenage hunters who were absent from the original series.
However, the plot depicted in the teaser may differ from what Supernatural fans recall, which we shall explain in the next section. In August 2022, another trailer for the program was released (which is featured above). This was followed by the release of another trailer on September 13.
Several videos and teasers for the series have also been published, including ones that focus on John, and Mary, their relationship, and the beginning of their narrative, as well as one that explains the Men of Letters. Here is the most recent trailer:
