General “Thunderbolt” Ross will return to the MCU, and Harrison Ford will likely play him.
Jeff Sneider, a reporter, says that after the death of William Hurt, the actor who played the Marvel General, the Indiana Jones star, will take on the role.
Sneider said on Twitter, “We’ve heard that Harrison Ford HAS, in fact, been cast as General Thunderbolt Ross, who is expected to make his first appearance in… CAPTAIN AMERICA 4.”
The film confirmed the news and said that Ford will be in Marvel’s Thunderbolts, the upcoming movie about a team of supervillains that will end Marvel’s Phase 5.
General Ross has already been in the MCU. He was in The Incredible Hulk (2008), Captain America: Civil War, the last two Avengers films in the Infinity Saga, and Black Widow.
But the actor who played Ross before, William Hurt, died earlier this year. This meant that Marvel had to find a new actor to play Ross in the Thunderbolts movie, which seems like a given name.
At the moment, it’s unclear what role Ford will play in the upcoming movies, but in the comics, ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross is often like Amanda Waller from the Suicide Squad. But there may also be a version of Ross that fans will like better…
A recent episode of Marvel’s She-Hulk hinted at a “Red Hulk,” precisely what happens to Ross in the comics. Intelligencia, an organization also in She-Hulk, made the Red Hulk part of a super soldier program. He first appeared in 2008. As a more intelligent and armed Hulk, he quickly became a fan favorite.
But most of the time, motion capture is used for Marvel’s Hulk roles… It’s unclear if Ford will wear a motion capture suit to make Red Hulk come to life on the big screen. Either way, it looks like Ross “Thunderbolt” will be back. We still don’t know if we’ll get the Red Hulk.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe Casts Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross!
Harrison Ford is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This could be one of the most extensive casting wins for the franchise so far. The Hot Mic and /or Film say that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has asked the famous star of Indiana Jones and Star Wars to play Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. This role was previously played by William Hurt, who died earlier this year.
Ford will play Ross in more than one movie. According to reports, his first movie will be Captain America: New World Order, and he will join another ensemble cast. The team-up movie Thunderbolts, shown at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, will also have him in it.
The movie is supposed to end Phase 5 of the MCU, and the entire cast was revealed at the time. Ford will join Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Hannah-John Kamen, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Marvel’s biggest team-up movie since Avengers: Endgame.
Ford has worked with Disney for a long time because he was in the Indiana Jones and Star Wars movies made by Lucasfilms. He returned to a galaxy far, far away after 32 years in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In the years after he was in the original trilogy, he was against the movies, but he changed his mind. After Carrie Fisher died, he made a cameo appearance in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
His most exciting role, though, has always been that of Indiana Jones, the brave archaeologist. In the fifth installment, just called Indiana Jones, which will come out next year, Ford will play the role for the last time.
Ford, who is now 80 years old, shouldn’t have to do too much physical work for the role of Ross. Technology that makes people look younger will help him play Indiana Jones, but his MCU character usually runs things from boardrooms, so his schedule should be light and easy to handle.
It will be a big win for Marvel and Feige if they can get Ford to join the franchise. Since Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans left after Endgame, the franchise has been missing some A-list stars.
Captain America: New World Order will come out on May 3, 2024, and will be directed by Julius Onah. Thunderbolts will come out on July 26, 2024, and Jake Schreier will be in charge of that movie.
