The much-anticipated third season of the hit drama Physical on AppleTV+ is already in the works. Two months after announcing that New Girl would be back for a third season, the streaming service has added Emmy and Golden Globe winner Zooey Deschanel to its already outstanding lineup.
Deschanel will be seen as Kelly in a new series regular role. This is her return to TV after her career-defining role as Jess on the popular Fox sitcom New Girl ended in 2018.
Kelly, played by Zooey Deschanel, is a network comedy star who decided to move into the fitness industry.
Season 2 of the show ended with a cliffhanger. Sheila Rubin (Rose Byrne), who had just released her first fitness video, was devastated when her husband told her there was new competition in town. Based on how her character is described, Kelly may be Byrne’s new rival or at least one of many people who want to take over his new business.
Deschanel was a regular on the indie film scene before she became a TV star with the show New Girl, which started in 2011 and ran for 7 successful seasons until it ended in 2018. Deschanel was the main character on the show, but she also directed one episode and worked as a producer and executive producer.
She was nominated for multiple Golden Globe and Emmy awards and won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her role. Her best-known movies are 500 Days of Summer, Elf, a massive hit during the holidays in 2003, and Trolls, an animated family comedy (2016).
Deschanel will next play Nancy in Bill Pohlad’s biopic Dreamin’ Wild, which had its world premiere at the 79th Venice International Film Festival. She will also play Nancy in Harold and the Purple Crayon, the first live-action movie directed by Brazilian animator Carlos Saldanha.

Deschanel will join Byrne, Dierdre Friel, Della Saba, Lou Taylor Pucci, Paul Sparks, Ashley Liao, and Geoffrey Arend, who have received a lot of praise for their performances. Annie Weiss created, wrote, and is in charge of making Physical for Tomorrow Studios (in cooperation with ITV Studios).
Byrne also works as a producer with Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Alissa Bachner, Stephanie Laing, and Craig Gillespie. Laing is a director, but sometimes Gillespie, Liza Johnson, and Dan Lazarovits sit in the director’s chair with her.
Physical Season 3 has not yet been given a release date by AppleTV+, but the first and second seasons can already be watched on the site.
