Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s ongoing legal battle to sell the Chateau Miraval Winery has brought up many of their problems. A heartbreaking email that Jolie sent to Pitt in January 2021 has recently resurfaced. This shows that the couple’s issues have been going on for much longer than recent headlines would have you believe and that Jolie has had to be sensitive in how she’s handled the breakup with her Mr. & Mrs. Smith co-star.
The email was found again after Jolie accused Pitt of physically hurting one of their children and pouring beer all over her during a fight in 2016. She starts the email by saying, “I’m writing this down, so I don’t get too emotional.” From there, it only gets more heartbreaking.
“It’s where we brought the twins home and got married over a plaque in honor of my mother,” Jolie wrote in the email ET got from court documents. She talked about Knox and Vivienne, Pitt and Jolie’s twin youngest children. “A place that held the promise of what could be and where I thought I would spend my whole life. Even now, it makes me cry to write this. I will always remember what it was like ten years ago.”

“But it is also where the end of our family—and a business based on alcohol—begins,” Jolie said, referring to Pitt’s problems with alcoholism. “I had hoped it could be something that brought us closer together and helped us find light and peace. I can see that you wanted me to leave, and you’ll probably be glad to get this email.”
She then said that Pitt had made many business and personal decisions without her. “I’ve been hurt by decisions that show no interest in sharing the business or changing it in a way that would make it healthier for our children.”
Last year, Jolie told The Guardian that even though she fights for human rights worldwide, especially for children’s rights, it can be hard to deal with the same problems when they are personal. “Sometimes you can’t understand something personally, especially if you’re focused on the biggest injustices in the world because everything else seems smaller,” she said. “It’s so tough.
I’d like to talk about this because it’s so important… I’m not someone who makes decisions like the ones I had to make on the spot. I had to go through a lot before I felt like I had to break up with the father of my children.
