On September 12, Sherri Shepherd’s brand new talk show, simply titled SHERRI, will make its debut, and she could not be more thrilled about it.
The comedian, who is 55 years old and has been a co-host on The View since 2007, disclosed in an EXCLUSIVE video interview with HollywoodLife that before joining The View in 2007, her former co-host Whoopi Goldberg, who is 66 years old, provided her with some sound career advice that she continues to follow to this day.
Sherri described Whoopi’s words of advice in an honest and emotional answer, saying that “one of the major things that I learnt at The View is to pay it forward.”
Whoopi had imparted these words of wisdom to her during an episode of The View. In 2021, Sherri made her comeback to the talk show circuit when she substituted for her predecessor, Wendy Williams, 58, on The Wendy Williams Show.
Wendy Williams was the longest-running talk show host at the time. After her tenure on The View, which began in 2007 and culminated in her receiving a Daytime Emmy Award just two years later, she is, of course, an experienced veteran of the daytime talk show circuit.
When I moved here from Los Angeles, the only thing I owned was a tank top and a GAP miniskirt. After I had appeared on Bill O’Reilly wearing that tank top and that miniskirt, Whoopi was the one who drove me about town. Whoopi said, “We have to get you some clothes,” and I heard her say this.
It was she who introduced me to Anne Fisher. “She bought all of these expensive clothes for me, which she gave to me as a gift,” Sherri revealed to HL.
“I told the cashier, ‘I can’t afford these clothing; your credit card will be refused.'” I figured that if I bought the clothing, paid for them, and then returned them, I could get my money back. I was going through the process of getting divorced. I just was broke.”
“The store clerk remarked that Ms Goldberg had paid for these garments after I handed the card to them,” I stated. When I finally lost it and started crying, Whoopi held me, and she told me to “pay it forward.”
Whoopi will make charitable contributions without even putting her name on whatever she does. Sherri referred to Whoopi, her great friend and mentor, and said the following about her: “She will take care of somebody if they need something and not even put her name on the check they don’t know who that angel was, but it was Whoopi.”
“Whoopi showed me the importance of paying it forward, and I’ve made it a point to do so throughout my whole career.”

The question now is how she intends to put Whoopi’s wise counsel into practice on her talk programme, SHERRI.
“For this talk show, Sherri, paying it forward means that I am going to show you regular people, heroes who need some exposure, and I want to show you some comics who are amazing,” Sherri told added.

“We got the cast of characters.” I would like to introduce you to some new people who have new voices and pay it forward because these people also require exposure. It was necessary for me, and someone is going to assist them.
