Previously known as food stamps, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) aids low-income households by providing monthly payments that can be used to augment food budgets.
SNAP, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is a food assistance programme that is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture and is managed at the state level.
Your EBT card, which is connected to your SNAP account, can only be used to make the following types of purchases, as stated by the USDA:
Fruits and veggies.
Meat, as well as fish.
Dairy.
Cereals and bread are included.
Snack foods and beverages that do not include alcohol.
Plants and seeds, both of which will be used to grow food for the family’s table.
Your EBT card cannot be used to make the following types of purchases:
Beverages containing alcohol
Products made from tobacco.
Vitamins, supplementary medicines, and such things.
Live animals (except shellfish, fish removed from water and animals slaughtered before pick-up from the store).
Items that are selling quickly at the register: foods.
Anything that isn’t food.
According to Food Stamps Now, consumers can use their EBT cards to purchase energy drinks; however, the bottle must bear the label “Nutrition Facts.”
If the energy drink contains a label that says “Supplement Facts,” then it is considered a supplement, and supplements are not eligible for the SNAP programme.
According to I Am Going Vegan, the following are a few examples of energy drinks that qualify for EBT:
Bang Energy.
Energy from C4
Monster.
It’s a Red Bull.
Reign.
RockStar.
Zevia.
Because these energy drinks contain a Supplement Facts label, they cannot be purchased with SNAP funds because they do not qualify.
