The Availability of Abortion Services in Two “Stalwart” Southern States Has Become a Focal Point of Post-roe Court Battles

Later on this week, Vice President Kamala Harris is going to make a trip to Nevada, where she will give a speech at a large organized labour conference and discuss reproductive rights with state lawmakers.

Harris is scheduled to make a speech at the annual conference of the United Steelworkers labour union on Wednesday in Las Vegas, according to a White House official who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

It is anticipated that the focus of her remarks will be on the “shared vision” that exists between the labour organization and the administration of Vice President Joe Biden, with a particular emphasis on the contributions made by the steelworkers to the federal infrastructure law that was passed the previous year.

On Monday, Biden presented pre-recorded remarks to the union convention, and on the same day, Labor Secretary Marty Walsh spoke to those who were attending the convention.

It is also one of Harris’ first public appearances since she broke a tie vote in the United States Senate to pass the Inflation Reduction Act, a $700 billion package that addresses climate change, health care, and tax policy.

The proposal was able to clear a significant barrier as a result of her vote, which also gave President Joe Biden and the congressional Democrats a triumph just three months before the midterm elections in 2022.

In the wake of the decision by the United States Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, the Vice President will also meet with legislators from the state of Nevada to address reproductive rights during her trip.

Since the draft of the court’s ruling was made public in May, Senator Harris has met with legislators and activists from other states to discuss abortion and reproductive care at similar meetings and roundtables.
