The good news is that if you are eligible for benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and you want to shop for groceries from the convenience of your phone or computer, you can use your SNAP electronic benefits card to make purchases on the Instacart grocery delivery and pickup platform.
According to the information provided on its website, customers in the United States can pay for online orders with a valid EBT card from participating retailers in certain states. This information is provided by Instacart.
As long as the state that issued your EBT card is a participant in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Online Purchasing Pilot, you have the freedom to shop at any of the participating retailers.
As of the time of this writing, eligible cardholders reside in every state except Alaska, Louisiana, and Montana.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP, is a federal initiative that offers financial assistance to low-income Americans so that they can buy food.
The benefits are administered using the system that processes EBT debit cards.
Customers can quickly add their EBT or SNAP card as a payment method through the “Account Settings” section of the Instacart app.
To pay for fees, bottle deposits in certain states, taxes, delivery tips, and any other items that are not eligible for EBT SNAP, you are required to link a credit or debit card.
There are a lot of different non-alcoholic beverages and non-alcoholic food items that you can buy with your EBT SNAP card. When shopping at participating stores, be on the lookout for the EBT label.
When you go to check out, you need to make sure that the payment method “EBT SNAP” is selected.
You also have the option to choose how much of the total will be paid for by EBT SNAP, which could be the whole amount or just a portion of it.
The following businesses are listed on the Instacart website as accepting EBT cards; however, the requirements for participation may differ depending on the state:
Spring Market, Super 1 Foods, Brookshire’s Fresh by Brookshire’s, and Brookshire’s Food & Pharmacy
Cardenas Markets
