From the Glastonbury Stage, Billie Eilish Denounces the Supreme Court’s Decision on Abortion in “Dark Day”

At Glastonbury, Billie Eilish spoke out vehemently against the US Supreme Court’s decision to eliminate the constitutional right to an abortion.

“Today is a really, terribly terrible day for women in the US,” the 20-year-old singer told the large throng gathered in front of the Pyramid Stage.

I won’t say anything else because I can’t stand to think about it any longer.

She continued by dedicating her song “Your Power,” which is about older males abusing their position, to everyone who will be impacted by the judgement made earlier on Friday.

Eilish became the Festival’s youngest-ever solo headliner when she performed at Glastonbury.

Folk singer Phoebe Bridgers was another performer to denounce the ruling. She made her John Peel stage debut and attacked the “old Supreme Court justices” who “try to tell us what to do with our bodies.”

The decision overturns precedent established by the historic 1973 case that granted women in the U.S. the legal right to end a pregnancy, as well as the succeeding 1992 decision, Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which generally upheld the right.

The Court’s judgement, released on Friday, stated that “the Court finds that the right to abortion is not deeply anchored in the Nation’s history and culture.”
