According to the Biden administration, as cases spread across the country, steps are being taken to improve the testing capacity for the monkeypox virus.
The Department of Health and Human Services reported Wednesday that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention started delivering monkeypox tests to five private laboratory businesses this week to expand testing availability and capacity.
“The prevalence of monkeypox in America should worry everyone. Thankfully, we now have the resources to combat and treat instances in America “In a statement, Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra stated.
We are enabling everyone who needs to get tested to do so by significantly increasing the number of testing sites across the nation.
One outbreak is occurring in the United States as hundreds of other nations struggle with their own.
Doctors in Britain discovered the first confirmed case of the new pandemic at the beginning of this month.
Since then, more than 2,000 infections have been identified, most of which are in men who have sex with other men, according to the World Health Organization.
It was reported that this discovery will enable expanded testing and make use of already-existing linkages between clinics, hospitals, and private laboratories to better grasp the scope of the current monkeypox outbreak.
Healthcare providers will be able to use the five commercial laboratories—Aegis Science, Labcorp, Mayo Clinic Laboratories, Quest Diagnostics, and Sonic Healthcare—that will be receiving the tests by the beginning of next month, according to the Department of Health and Human Services, which also noted that it will be ramping up testing capacity throughout July.
To better understand the scale of the present monkeypox outbreak, it was stated that this development will enable enhanced testing, and make use of already-existing connections between clinics, hospitals, and private laboratories.
On March 17, a patient from Massachusetts became the first person in the US to be diagnosed with monkeypox as part of the continuing outbreak. The CDC reported 156 illnesses in 23 states and the District of Columbia as of Wednesday afternoon.
As hundreds of countries deal with their own outbreaks, one is happening in the United States.
Early this month, doctors in Britain identified the first confirmed case of the current pandemic.
