Supreme Court Judges Who Misled While on Oath, According to AOC, Must Pay a Price for Their “Impeachable Crime

  • Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said Sunday that judges who “lie under oath” face penalties.
  • Ocasio-Cortez was alluding to Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch, two Supreme Court justices.
  • Despite both voting to overturn Roe v. Wade, two senators said the justices had reassured them that they thought it was the law.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez declared on Sunday that she thought a Supreme Court justice’s lying under oath constituted an “impeachable act.”

Sens. Susan Collins and Joe Manchin stated that they believed Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch were misled during their respective confirmation hearings after Roe v. Wade was overturned. The two pro-choice senators convinced them that they thought Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision that established abortion a constitutional right in every state, was law by voting to approve Kavanaugh and Gorsuch.

However, earlier this week, Gorsuch and Kavanaugh both voted to overturn Roe.

In an interview with NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” Ocasio-Cortez stated that she thinks the court is experiencing a “crisis of legitimacy” and that justices should be held accountable if they lie while under oath.

“We must see that through, she said if we let Supreme Court applicants fabricate testimony under oath to win lifetime appointments to the nation’s top court. Such a profoundly disruptive move and aggressive takeover of our democratic institutions must have repercussions.”

She said, “To let it stand is to let it take place. “And what makes it so hazardous is that it sends a blaring signal to all future nominees that they can now mislead lawfully elected United States Senate members to gain Supreme Court confirmations and seats on the Supreme Court,” the author of the article said.

Ocasio-Cortez continued by saying she thought lying while under oath qualified as an impeachable offense.

Senators like Joe Manchin and Susan Collins, among others, “should give this considerable consideration, in my opinion,” she added.

Nationwide protests were prompted by the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Numerous well-known people, including politicians like Ocasio-Cortez and artist Jack White, have criticized the decision since it became public. The court’s ruling, according to Attorney General Merrick Garland, is a “devastating blow to reproductive freedom in the United States,” he said on Friday.
