Many of us take it for granted that we will be able to buy enough healthful groceries with the money we earn without having to worry about it. Individuals and families living at or near the poverty line — $13,590 for an individual and $27,750 for a family of four — may find it difficult to buy basic necessities such as food.
This can be a severe problem for people in need, especially as inflation drives up costs even more. The federal government assists these families through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps), which provides people with monies on an electronic benefits transfer (EBT) card that can be used to purchase food, beverages, and food-producing plants and seeds.
This summer, we’ve compiled a list of all the sites where you can use your SNAP benefits.
Shops for Food
The most obvious place to spend your SNAP payments is at grocery stores, which is where the majority of individuals buy their groceries. These can range from big-box supermarkets like Safeway and Kroger’s to small-town mom-and-pop stores and even specialist food stores. Naturally, you should always double-check that the things you’re purchasing are SNAP-eligible, as not all are.
Markets for local produce
Local farmers markets, which are usually open seasonally depending on where you reside, are the greatest location to buy fresh food such as fruits and vegetables. Some of these markets accept SNAP benefits, and you can find the most updated list of eligible locations on the USDA’s website.

Fast food fills the vacuum for many people, and there are over 300 fast food restaurants that accept EBT around the country. Burger King, McDonald’s, Del Taco, Taco Bell, Dairy Queen, Papa Murphy’s pizza, Golden Corral, and other well-known chains are among them, according to FoodStampsNow.
