To avoid a recession or possibly depression in the United States. Inflation has grown as a result of the increased inflow of capital to both individuals and corporations.

As Yahoo points out, legislators are now in a pickle. They must assess if more direct relief will increase inflation further or if it will assist the United States in containing inflation.

By the end of 2021, it is estimated that stimulus cheques and the $3 trillion in relief will have led to a 3% increase in inflation.
