Donald Trump’s Critics React to Ivanka Trump’s Testimony, Saying It “Sinks Daddy”

While Donald Trump’s fans didn’t have a good day on Thursday, those on the other side of the political aisle cheered Ivanka Trump’s explosive testimony at the Jan. 6 hearing, in which she appeared to turn her back on her father.

Ivanka Trump, one of Trump’s most trusted supporters and advisers, appeared in a previously unseen video clip saying she didn’t believe the 2020 presidential election was stolen during the first hearing of the trial investigating the deadly riots that saw Trump supporters attack the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Ivanka Trump stated she accepted Attorney General William Barr’s testimony that the assertions that the election was stolen were “total nonsense,” “crazy things,” and “bulls***” because his staff had not found evidence of voter fraud at the time.

“It influenced my opinion [on the election] – I respect Attorney General Barr, so I accepted what he stated,” Ivanka told the committee, which blamed her father for the Capitol attacks, describing the assault as an “attempted coup.”

Her statements contrast sharply with Trump’s continuing denials that he won the 2020 election. Her testimony could also reveal that Trump’s closest advisers advised him against alleging a rigged election.

After the hearing, the hashtag “Daddy” began trending on Twitter’s politics section, alongside the more tame #January6thCommitteeHearings, #Ivanka, and #Traitor, in an unusual moment in political discussion on the internet’s public arena (mostly about Trump himself).

“IVANKA TRUMP SINKS DADDY says she agreed with Barr’s conclusion that the fraud allegation was false. “Wow,” tweeted Keith Olbermann, an American sports analyst.

“I’d expect words from Ivanka, Pence, and Bill Barr will breach the GOP disinformation bubble,” novelist and lawyer Teri Kanefield wrote on Twitter, praising the Jan. 6 hearing’s stunning testimony.

“They’re not exactly extreme Democrats or “never Trump Republicans,” to put it another way.”

Others, on the other hand, were more sardonic in their reactions to the evidence.

On Twitter, former National Finance Chair of Biden 2016 Draft Jon Cooper tweeted, “I’ll wager you 10 money Ivanka was just cut out of Trump’s will.”

“That Ivanka tape isn’t going to sit well with Trump,” journalist Molly Jong-Fast said.

“#IvankaTrump: ‘I accepted what [then-AG-Bill Barr] was saying,’ referring to the fact that there was no election fraud. She’s basically accusing her father of being a liar or a deluded con guy. “Perhaps both,” writer David Corn speculated.

“Ivanka Trump – testified bill Barr told the truth – no election intervention – claimed she believed Barr – threw daddy under the bus,” actor John Cusack posted on Twitter.

Activist Amy Siskind questioned whether Ivanka Trump is separating herself from her father as a tactical move implying she is pursuing her own path in American politics.

“Wondering if Ivanka has Presidential ambitions based on how she is positioning herself with the Jan 6 committee and leaking her story to a New York Times reporter as a so-called source in his book,” she wrote.
