The White House announced on Monday that an aircraft from Germany to Texas will transport 110,000 pounds of Nestlé newborn formula on June 9.
The Nestle formula, which equates to around 1.6 million 8-ounce bottles, will be available countrywide, with more Nestle formula deliveries to be announced in the following days, according to the company.
“We’re not going to stop until we fix this problem,” President Joe Biden said in a statement to Reuters. “We’re working to ensure that enough safe formula is available on shop shelves nationally.”
In the next two weeks, Biden noted, nearly 10 million bottles of safe infant formula will be imported and sold across the country.
“We still have a lot of work to do,” he continued, “but we’re making progress, and newborn formula sales have broken post-pandemic records in the last two weeks.”
The scarcity of newborn formula has become a powerful political issue for Biden, who is already grappling with concerns about increasing inflation in the United States ahead of the November mid-term elections.
The White House said that Biden’s Operation Fly Formula has provided 1.5 million Nestle formulas and has secured 8.3 million from Bubs Australia and Kendal.
Following a February recall of several formulae by Abbott Laboratories, one of the country’s largest manufacturers, families in the United States have had difficulty finding it.
