Unless a “high-profile defendant” mentioned in the case against YSL was released from jail, Mender allegedly threatened to kill Labat, Labat’s wife Jacki, and the police chief of Atlanta Public Schools.
In May, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office issued a comprehensive indictment accusing Young Thug and others involved with the music label YSL — which investigators have labelled a criminal business — of violating Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, or RICO Act.
According to McClatchy News, the rapper, born Jeffery Williams, was one of at least 27 people charged with racketeering and gang-related crimes.
According to WXIA, a court refused him release on Thursday, June 2, and his trial isn’t slated to start until January 2023.
Williams is the highest-profile person in the indictment who authorities have pegged as the leader of YSL, according to the news station.
It’s unclear which “high-profile defendant” Mender was referring to in his threats.
Labat stated that “brazen threats” are taken seriously by his office.
He warned in a statement that “social media cyberbullying and hiding behind a keyboard will not insulate someone from criminal prosecution.”
“Our investigators work tirelessly to find people who want to hurt others, and I am grateful to them for protecting the safety of myself, my wife, and all Fulton County residents.”
Mender was arrested and put into the Fulton County Jail, where he is still being held without bond as of June 3, according to online records.
